Is it normal for cats to lose teeth, or have loose teeth?

We are calling the vet tommarrow, but we dont know if this is normal, our cat Luna, has a loose tooth, its bleeding a bit. We dont know if we should pull it out or let it come out on its own. But if we let it come out on its own, were afraid she will swallow it or maybe lose it somewhere. What should i do. Also is this normal, please please PLEASE answer my question.

Is it normal for cats to lose teeth, or have loose teeth?
Not adult cats. Kittens loose teeth, but adult cats don't unless there is a problem.
Reply:Not normal unless she is less than 6 months old and it's a baby tooth.

I wouldn't pull it out, it won't hurt her if she swallows it. Kittens do it all the time.

Check with the vet tomorrow.
Reply:It is semi-normal only if they have a small problem. Just like people cats can have problems with their gums and any number of things. Two of our cats have had teeth removed because of problems. I would recommend not trying to pull it out but just keeping an eye on her until you take her to the vet. As far as swallowing it, it may happen. I mean, think about it. When they are kittens they lose their teeth and possibly swallow it. Like I said, just keep an eye on her. Best of luck.
Reply:well it would help if you gave its age .. baby kitten like dogs will lose there baby teeth and most of the time they will swallow them ..but seems how i don't know the age you best just leave it alone and take her vet .. so call them in the morn and see if you can get her in ....good luck
Reply:Kittens usually swallow their baby teeth.

Adult cats, though, have a pain problem if there are any loose, wobbly or broken teeth in their mouth. They should be checked by a vet and the bad teeth removed. If a tooth breaks off, the vet needs to check if the root came out too, because if it's still in the jaw then a nasty infection can take hold.

Two of our adult cats had a fang taken out. One had cracked hers when she landed wrong from a jump. The other had a black hole in the base (cavity) and it went in as far as the nerve so the vet got those out soon as we could get an appointment. Another had a broken side molar, HOW that happened we couldn't figure, he's handicapped and doesn't climb on things, he had snapped it off the root and it was barely attached, hanging there. Happened on a Sunday too, so we had to go to the emergency vet. Another one jumped down from a chain link fence and missed his footing on the driveway, snapping off his fang at the base--we got him in to get that taken out soon as we could catch him, he was in terrible pain from that. It happens, cats often crack or chip teeth in jumps, if they're not paying attention to how they land or if they fall from a height. The jaw is the first thing hitting the ground after the feet.
