My daughter's front teeth (19year old) seem to be losing the enamel, what is this caused from?

It looks as though she may be getting holes in her teeth. Takes care of them and had braces as a child.

My daughter's front teeth (19year old) seem to be losing the enamel, what is this caused from?
I am not trying to be funny.

But have you ever heard of "meth mouth". Google it.

That should not be happening to someone who is properly taking care of their teeth.
Reply:Sounds like she's smoking a ton of crack.
Reply:citric acid would probably be it....if she eats lemons or if she is consumung too much of one thing bt my mom had that too from lemons her teeth actually turn clear....dentists should help
Reply:she may be bulimic? that can damage the enamel because of the acid or just drinks a lot of soda and eats a lot of sugar? I'm not sure...bring her to the dentist maybe s/he can figure it out?
Reply:Maybe because she had braces she didn't get to clean her teeth as well. It can also be cause by acid or candy(.Acid could be found in certain drinks like juice. ) I'm not a dentist I'm just giving my opinion.
Reply:honestly you might think about gettin her a UA......loss of enamel can be caused by smokin drugs....crack, and meth for instance....does she got the jitters alot, or seem to be itchy often, moody, paranoid....might wanna look at all of her symptoms besides teeth because holes forming in your teeth are kinda clear cut from smokin somethin nasty
Reply:I know that drugs can do that to teeth..Also to much acid on teeth (from soda or whatever) can also make teeth lose its enamal.
Reply:If she takes good care of her teeth she could either be suffering from bulhemia, drinking a lot of alcohol, doing drugs or suffering from some other medical ailment. It is not normal for a healthy person who is taking care of their teeth to be losing enamel like that. Something is going on. You need to check into it.
Reply:Persistant vomiting (I'm not suggesting she has an eating disorder as I don't know her) will rot the enamel from teeth. You might want to take her to the dentist.
Reply:take you daughter to the dentist for a full exam. there are many reasons for enamel loss that are not all about drugs or purging after eating.

she may have hyper acidic saliva that is wearing away her teeth.

she may need a calcium supplement.

and then again, she may be sneaking drugs, or throwing up after every meal to lose weight.

either way, see the doctor before she has to be fitted for dentures.
Reply:Malnutrition is one possible cause of "holes" in the front teeth (I assume you mean ridges on the bottom of the teeth, making it look like the teeth are being split into sections). Lost enamel can be due to bulimia. Over-bleaching can make the teeth translucent and look like they're getting holes in them. It's useless to speculate about diseases that can cause issues with teeth, since only a doctor can diagnose that.

A dentist would probably diagnose the cause fairly quickly or at least know where to send her for more testing.
Reply:Don't freak, just because meth can do that...doesn't mean your daughter is doing meth. this can happen from not getting enough calcium, from drinking too much soda or eating sugary foods and not brushing enough. I have a spot on my tooth and the dentist told me to brush extra good, due to the enamel rotting off. The enamel of the tooth will appear a stain like white, and if she isn't taking care of her teeth, she may get even bigger holes. Tell her to go to the dentist, this can easily be fixed. My sister in law had two holes in her teeth and they sealed them up and they look like the holes never existed.

Good luck.
