My 6 year old son already lost 4 teeth due to infection, including 2 molars. What can I do?

He's got tons of cavities and all were filled. Then 4 got infected. Questions: where can I read all about pediadental care? what supplement can I give him? What to expect in future? What should be done at this moment for the four lost teeth?

Just make him brush his teeth better!
Reply:What does his dentist say about this?
Reply:take care of his teeth, your supposed to make sure he brushes it or you brush it for him.
Reply:The first thing to do and PLEASE do not take offense is to look at his diet. He may have some type of mineral/vitamin deficiency that is causing him to have poor dental health. I would perhaps talk to your pediatrician to see if they can offer any solutions or run some blood work to look for a deficiency. My best to you.
Reply:Have you asked the dentist who filled his teeth why he is getting so many cavities? Sounds like you need to find a new dentist. Does your child have a defect in the enamel formation of his teeth? Did you allow him to have a bottle at night with anything other than water in it when he was an toddler? I would have his dental health evaluated by a pediatric dentist even if I had to go to a University Dental school. There are sealants that can be painted on the molars to prevent cavities forming in the pits and crevices . Fluride suppliments might help if your water isn't fluridated. I feel for both you and your child but it seems like the help of another dentist is necessary. Infected teeth can lead to heart disease and other problems so keep looking for answers.
Reply:you could see an orthodontist. to get a plate or space maintainer so his other teeth dont move. and the spaces are left open for his adult teeth to come through.

otherwise if the teeth do move you could expect to be paying for braces a few years down the track.
Reply:No offense here (I promise!), but it's your job to make sure his teeth are cared for properly. Watch him brush and floss and/or do it for him. He doesn't know any better and it's up to you to care for and educate him in oral care. Ask your hygienist or dentist for some pointers.

As for what to expect in the future, if things don't stop they are right now, he'll lose his teeth which will throw off his permanent teeth as far as spacing goes. He'll have poor oral hygiene into adulthood where he will have to deal with tons of cavities and possible lost teeth.

For the four lost teeth, he could get some space maintainers. A space maintainer consists of a band that goes around the tooth behind the one that's lost and a loop of wire that goes across the empty space and touches the tooth in front of it. It's generally un-noticable and doesn't hurt. If the space isn't maintained, the other teeth will shift and there won't be room for his permanent teeth to come in.

P.S. I wouldn't go crazy with the fluoride unless the dentist okays it because if he gets tons of it all the time, his currently developing teeth can develop fluorosis. Double-check with your dentist on fluoride supplements. : )
