My friend is losing her teeth!?

My friend who is only 26 is having fillings on new teeth every month, they getting holes in them thick and fast. Some of her teeth have also broken and are going slightly black. We are debating - she thinks the NHS will replace them if they all fall out - i think she will only be offered dentures. What do you think?

My friend is losing her teeth!?
On the NHS she will only be offered dentures, not indiuvidual tooth replacement. If it were only the odd tooth she'd maybe get a bridge but otherwise it'll be a mouthful of plastic.
Reply:I think she needs more calcium
Reply:I agree with u...replacement is expensive and considered to be cosmetic surgery...dentures are the cheaper route for sure!
Reply:Tooth decay is only caused by sugar. Nothing else.

If your friend has neglected her teeth so badly that new holes are appearing all the time, then I doubt any dentist will be willing to provide her with fixed prosthetic work like crowns/bridges. They will see it as a waste of effort if they too are going to be neglected. I am certain that dentures are all that will be available to your friend until she gets on top of her diet and oral hygiene.
Reply:First of all, your friend should be aware of what is causing the problems in the first place. Is she eating a lot of sweets, raisins, drinking sweet drinks? Is she using illegal drugs like Meth? Rampant decay has absolutely nothing to do with calcium but everything to do with the interaction between bacteria and sugar on teeth. It would be a shame for her to get dentures at such a young age. If she can, she should go private and see what options she has with dental implants.
Reply:i have a mother in law who at 15, she had lost ll of her back teeth and as a result had to have her first set of dentures due to a calcium defficiency. Unfortunately, the nhs will not replace teeth as it is very expensive, however, if the existing teeth are causing an excessive amount of pain, they will look into replacing them with dentures.
Reply:If her teeth fall out the nhs will replace them with dentures at a cost of £194.

The nhs will not replace them with things such as dental implants, and reading between the lines it sounds as though your friends's mouth is in such a bad way that implants would be out of the question.

I think your friend should be more concerned that her teeth are in such a bad state, and not about what their going to be replaced with.

Either her dentist is not really hammering home the importance of oral hygiene, or your friend is not taking on board what she is being told!
